About Me - Simon Wright

I live in a Scottish village called Polmont, which is a short distance outside Edinburgh (Scotland's picturesque capital city). However, I am originally from the north of Ireland. I was born in Enniskillen and grew up by the lakes in Fermanagh until my teenage years when the family moved to Belfast.

I studied law at Southampton university but ended up working in banking. Qualified in marketing, I now work as a project manager with The Royal Bank of Scotland.

My school in Enniskillen (Portora) was the school that Oscar Wilde went to and the creative reputation of the school was further enhanced when the band The Divine Comedy emerged during the 90s. Several of the band members were in my year. Now, if only I'd had some musical talent ... Damn!

We interest in writing encompasses comedy sketch writing for theatre, plus the writing of poems, short stories and I've recently finished the first draft of a novel. My first breakthrough came when one of my sketches (What did you want to be?) was performed at the Edinburgh Traverse Theatre Monday Lizard event for new writers in 1999.

During 2007, I was invited to read an exerpt of my short story, 'In Dublin's fair city', at the Debut Authors Festival in Edinburgh. The event took place at the Traverse Theatre and was a great experience.

The photo on the home page of this site (in case you're wondering!) was taken on a fishing trip in Donaghadee, a small coastal town in Northern Ireland.

In recent times, I have been writing lots of articles on a website called www.helium.com. I've included links to some of these articles on this site.
